Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy Project at Railroad Point
This year the Conservancy begins its third land protection effort at the Railroad Point Natural Area. What started in 1996 with the initial protection of 66 precious acres continues today with a project that will bring the Railroad Point Natural Area to more than 200 acres, spanning from Crystal Lake to the Betsie River. Click here for a project summary, map of the proposed extension and schedule of summer events. The events also appear on our Schedule .
Benzie Bus Service and the Trail
Want to ride any part of the Trail one way? Call the Benzie Bus service at 231-325-3000 or toll free at 866-325-3380, make a reservation, spot your car, and the bus will take you, your friends, and your bikes to any road crossing of the Trail. The busses have bike racks, but if the bikes outnumber the racks, some can be placed inside. The fee is $3 per person, $1.50 per person for seniors (>55 years old). While a 24-hour reservation is preferred, sometimes
reservations may be made on shorter notice. Office hours are 6:00
am to 10:00 pm Mondays to Fridays, and 7:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturdays. Further information is available on the Benzie Bus website, including a separate page on the loading of a bike on a Benzie bus.
Opportunities to Help
We have worked hard since 1988 to plan, design, and build this Trail. There is still the non-ending job of trail maintnenance to address.
